General Description of Position:

 

Responsible for directing the day-to-day operations of the human resources function within Hargray Georgia operations.  Oversees recruiting, hiring, on-boarding, legal and compliance, safety & security and employee relations.  Serves as generalist and business partner to all operational departments. Directly manages a team to ensure the effective execution of areas of responsibility.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

 

  • Participates in the development of the operational plans and programs as a strategic partner from the perspective of the impact on people.
  • Translates strategic and tactical business plans into HR strategic and operational plans.
  • Evaluates and advises on the impact of long-range planning of new programs/strategies and regulatory action as those items impact the attraction, motivation, development, and retention of the people resources of the corporation.
  • Responsible for the following activities related to staffing management – recruiting and hiring; staffing needs related to internships and contract/temporary labor; coaching and discipline; company policies.
  • Represents the company in termination meetings with employees and manages an exit interview program to determine reasons behind separation; reports findings to the HR team and management.
  • Provides a broad range of consultative services to all levels of employees regarding policies and procedures.
  • Oversees company programs to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws.
  • Reviews revise and formulate employment and HR policies to advance corporate mission while maintaining compliance with all applicable laws and established standards.
  • Responsible for all activities related to employee relations including executing an effective employee relations program that drives the company’s culture. 
  • Consults with HR team and management on performance, organizational, and leadership matters. Conducts needs assessments to determine measures required to enhance employee engagement and overall company performance. 
  • Represents Company at unemployment hearings and investigations; conducts investigations and works with HR team and legal as necessary.
  • Provides expertise in strategy development and execution, planning, and facilitation of employee relations efforts.
  • Responsible for all activities related to labor relations including keeping abreast of legislation and activities.
  • Facilitates communication among employees and management. Guides managers and employees on problem-solving, dispute resolution, regulatory compliance, and litigation avoidance.
  • Trains employees on HR issues and practices.
  • Directs the needs assessment for and evaluates the effectiveness of training and staff development to enhance the effectiveness of employee performance in achieving the goals and objectives of the company.
  • Identifies/incorporates best practices and lessons learned into program plans.
  • Aligns business objectives with employees and management in the designated business unit(s).
  • Attends weekly HR and business unit(s) staff meeting(s).
  • Meets weekly with HR Leader, business unit(s) Heads and/ Or, VP and management team(s).
  • Provides weekly reports to designated VP, HR and management team(s).
  • Consults with HR team and management on a variety of issues.
  • Regularly goes into the field and visits with colleagues in their respective work areas.
  • Acts a colleague champion and change agent.
  • Assesses and anticipates HR-related needs and proactively addresses with, VP, HR, and management.
  • Develops integrated solutions to support HR, business unit(s) and organization.
  • Provides HR-generalist support to the designated business unit(s)/ territories.
  • Maintains an effective level of business literacy about business unit’s financial position, strategic plans, goals, and culture.
  • Reviews business unit(s) monthly operational reports and engages HR team and management with questions. 
  • Provides technical advice and knowledge to others within the human resources discipline.
  • Manages other areas such as relocation, employee communication, employee safety, and health and community relations.
  • Manages a budget and other financial measures.
  • Focuses on improving the programs, policies, practices, and processes associated with meeting the strategic and operational people issues of the organization.
  • Evaluates the structure and team plan for continual improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the group as well as providing individuals with professional and personal growth with an emphasis on opportunities (where possible) for individuals.
  • Oversees and advises on the administration and monitoring of compensation and benefits programs.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the effective operation of the department.

 

 

Job Requirements

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelors’ Degree in related field
  • 7 plus years’ experience in Human Resources with increasing scope of responsibility
  • 3 plus years’ management experience
  • Broad knowledge and experience in staffing management, compliance, employment law, employee relations, benefits, and compensation
  • Experience analyzing complex data
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
  • Sound interpersonal and coaching skills
  • Experience in ADP suite a plus
  • SHRM certification preferred
  • Active affiliation with appropriate Human Resources networks and organizations and ongoing community involvement
