General Description of Position:

Install, configure and maintain Hargray’s HFC and IPTV networks.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Performs installation, maintenance and repair on the following equipment in the headend and hub sites:
  • Satellite receivers
  • Video modulation systems
  • Video multiplexers
  • Aggregation equipment
  • Optical lasers and receivers
  • FTTH RF overlay equipment
  • Transcoders
  • Edge Modulation
  • Switches
  • SD/HD Encoders 
  • Loads, configures and tests all software and network connections necessary for the operation of the equipment listed above
  • Ensures that the Network Operations Center has monitoring and access capabilities for all equipment; verifies alarming at regular intervals
  •  Builds channel maps and service groups when required
  • Works with Network Engineering, Cable Maintenance, Installation and Repair to identify and resolve upstream and downstream network issues along with customer premise troubles
  • Documents and test all new system components to establish a baseline for future testing
  • Assists in FCC proof of performance tests to ensure the proper operation of the system; documenting the FCC require results as required
  • Performs intrusive testing and repairs at times which cause the least inconvenience to customers
  • Properly uses the tools of the trade; including, but not limited to:
    • Stream analyzer
    • Light level meter
    • SLM
    • Sweep transmitter and receiver (forward and return)
    • DVOM (AC & DC)
    • Spectrum analyzer
    • OTDR and TDR
    • Power meter
    • Laptop
  • Prepares and maintains condensed trouble reports. Sends reports to proper personnel for notification or resolution.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure effective operation of department.


Job Requirements

  • Minimum Qualifications:

    • High school graduate.
    •  3 years experience in installation, troubleshooting and repair of HFC or IPTV networks
    • HFC experience should include
      • 2 years experience on the following equipment:
        • Digital and analog satellite receivers, video modulation systems, aggregation equipment, optical lasers and receivers, FTTH RF overlay, spectrum analyzer, stream analyzers, SLM, VOM
      • Understanding of upstream and downstream balancing and sweeping concepts
      • Understand the setup and tuning of Satellite Dishes including feed horn focal points and V/H LNB’s
    •  IPTV experience should include
    1. 2 years experience with the OSI Model, multicast video, routing, switching, subnetting, static IPs, SD/HD IP encoding
    2. Microsoft Mediaroom – (HP Blade enclosures, EMC storage, VOD, and encryption)
    • Understanding of how to perform level readings, Depth of Modulation, Pre and Post Bit Error Rate and Modulations Error Rate measurements when required
    • Knowledge of video transcoders
    • Proficient in Excel and Word
    • Must be able to work efficiently with and offer direction to Installation, Repair and Cable Maintenance to resolve customer issues in the field.
    • Must be able to work various hours as required
    • Must be able to lift and carry up to 75 lbs
    • Must be able to travel and spend time away, sometimes for extended periods from reporting location.
    • Must communicate effectively using both verbal and written communications, inside/outside customers
