The Field Operations Support Technician is responsible for performing all duties involving the installation, testing, maintenance, and repairing of all circuits and equipment for Hargray Fiber equipment to ensure the continuity of service. Will also serve as the subject matter expert for all installation and repair issues for their market.

Duties and Responsibilities: Including but not limited to the following.

  • Installs, maintains, tests and repairs all Central Office transmission equipment; including but not limited to the MDF, Optical systems, and multiplexer equipment by reading and interpreting documentation, specifications and blueprints for all Central Office equipment; utilizing the latest test equipment and hand tools necessary to perform the job.
  • Interprets and implements all Central Office related service orders, work orders and trouble reports by communicating effectively with other departments; including but not limited to man/machine interfacing, installation and relocation of equipment, verification of completion of work orders.
  • Demonstrates basic knowledge of telephony, digital applications, color code and basic AC/DC theory.
  • Inspects, maintains and repairs or has repaired all remote buildings and various miscellaneous equipment such as generators, batteries, and uninterrupted power supply (UPS).
  • Turns up and maintains all special circuits and new PONS.
  • Tests and may assist other department in running jumpers on MDF and FDH.
  • Checks and maintains Central Office isolated ground zone.
  • Ensures the vehicles, tools and equipment are properly used and kept in good working order; completes the necessary paperwork to request maintenance or repairs.
  • Maintains all Central Office work areas in a clean and orderly fashion.
  • Reads and Interprets RF/HFC designs.
  • Installs and maintain RF/HFC plants to include Mini nodes, hotel amps, splitters, and TV’s.
  • Works in hospitality environments and collaborates with vendors such as LG/ Samsung/ Visio.
  • Refers employee, customer complaints, and problems to supervisor.
  • Responsible for deploying, maintaining, and supporting VOIP systems.
  • Troubleshoots and resolve highly complex customer telecommunication systems and networks.
  • Provides technical expertise to the Help Desk and Installation and Repair teams regarding telecommunication problems.
  • Designs, installs, maintains, and documents customers technology and communications needs, to provide excellent service exceeding the customers’ expectations.
  • Submits personal time report, gas tickets, material charge outs, as well as other clerical forms or other required paperwork.
  • Provides training and assistance for new employees and participates in cross training.
  • Communicates independently, effectively, clearly and professionally with customers, managers, supervisors, and employees to establish and maintain considerate and cooperative relationships.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure effective operation of department.

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications: Only candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be considered.

  • High school graduate.
  • Must have knowledge of basic electronics theory/practice.
  • Must have at least 3 years of RF/HFC experience.
  • Working knowledge of computers and communication hardware/software.
  • Central Office experience required as well as familiarity with various test equipment.
  • Working knowledge of Voice over IP, soft switches, and IAD’s.
  • Reads, understands, interprets, and applies written instructions, such as equipment manuals, in operation and troubleshooting of network operations systems.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with a history of safe driving record.
  • Must be able to work various schedules extended hours.
  • Experience in maintaining and troubleshooting electronic equipment, preferred but not required.
  • Experience in maintaining and troubleshooting DC power plants, preferred but not required.
  • Understanding of optical transport systems and multiplexers, preferred but not required.
  • Understand circuit design and functionality, preferred but not required.
  • Associate degree in Electronics or related field, preferred but not required.
