General Description of Position:


Designs, implements and maintains Hargray Communications’ network infrastructure using the latest technologies, develops internal processes for the deployment of these technologies while providing leadership to our technical staff.   Works in a team environment to develop and manage our Video, Data Network, and ISP services in concert with other departments focusing on reliability, performance, and security.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Demonstrates the ability to manage complicated technical projects including time-lines, costs, resources and vendor relationships.
  • Provides advanced technical and operational escalation support to the Operations staff on network elements, internal processes, training requirements, vendor support, and network design and planning.
  • Provides senior-level project management and capital management duties.
  • Manages vendor relations and product evaluations provide costs analysis and feasibility studies for various projects and proposed network designs.
  • Identifies operational and design issues through data analysis and recommends solutions to make networks more efficient.
  • Monitors network performance and perform capacity planning to ensure optimal performance of network resources.
  • Works with our internal technical, sales and support groups to provide a reliable and secure network infrastructure used to deliver telecommunications services including voice, video and high-speed data.
  • Supports carrier network equipment such as routers, switches, DSL and cable modems, UNIX systems, firewalls, and other data/IP networking-related equipment.
    Applies strong knowledge of data communications principles, architectures, and protocols including TCP/IP, routing, switching, WAN and Ethernet technologies to design and implement efficient network configurations.
  • Researches emerging technologies as a member of a task force or independently and makes appropriate recommendations to improve network performance, security, and reliability.
  • You will also be responsible for developing and maintaining a playbook for new market entry and document all the processes.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the effective operation of the department.

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:


  • 5 to 7 years of IP Network design experience
  • Expert knowledge and experience in layer 3 routing protocols: RIPv2, OSPF or IS-IS, and BGP
  • Deep knowledge of protocol inspection and packet capture methods using tools such as TCPDUMP/PCAP and Wireshark
  • Working knowledge and familiarity with SLA performance monitoring and related tools and platforms such as MRTG, SolarWinds, Netcool, etc.
  • Expert knowledge of Juniper MX, EX, and SRX platforms is required.
  • Deep knowledge of Juniper configurations focused on Routing, QoS, MPLS, VoIP, Multicast Video, and Security.
  • Juniper/Cisco certifications of JNCIE or equivalent experience desired.
  • Advanced knowledge of optical transport technology and design and experience with Fujitsu transport technology preferred
  • Working knowledge of Juniper based tools such as STRM and Space desired.
  • Well-versed in network security and design principles; demonstrated an ability to secure network services and knowledge of secure modular network design and risk assessment
  • Advanced Knowledge of TCP/IP (IPV4 / IPV6), Ethernet technologies, IP routing, and routing protocols, multicast, Unix/Linux systems, network security technologies, and carrier network architectures
  • Working knowledge of access platforms based on the following standards: MEF, DOCSIS, ADSL, GPON, DSL Forum
  • Strong familiarity with next-generation technologies: Network and datacenter virtualization, SDN and emerging technology standards


Additional Qualifications Desired:


  • Working knowledge of IP and RF video distribution architectures
  • Working knowledge of SIP, MGCP & H.323 VoIP protocols
  • Experience in an MSO/SP environment
