The Wifi Implementation Engineer will be responsible for designing and maintenance of Hargray's Wi-Fi, Fixed Wireless, and Microwave network infrastructure using the latest technologies, develop internal processes for the deployment of these technologies while providing leadership to our technical staff.  Works in a team environment to develop and manage our Wi-Fi core and access point deployments.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Demonstrates the ability to manage complicated technical projects including time-lines, costs, resources and vendor relationships.
  • Provides advanced technical and operational escalation support to the Operations staff on network elements, internal processes, training requirements, vendor support, and network design and planning.
  • Manages site assessment and acquisition process for fixed wireless and microwave applications.
  • Uses RF propagation and planning tools to assist in the engineering for planning and site acquisition
  • Identify causes and resolve RF interference that affects network performance for commercial and residential environments
  • Applies knowledge of 5G and LTE technologies to contribute to network design and expansion
  • Provides senior-level project management and capital management duties.
  • Manages vendor relations and product evaluations provide costs analysis and feasibility studies for various projects and proposed network designs.
  • Identifies operational and design issues through data analysis and recommends solutions to make Wi-Fi networks more efficient.
  • Monitors network performance and perform capacity planning to ensure optimal performance of Wi-Fi network resources.
  • Works with our internal technical, sales and support groups to provide a reliable and secure Wi-Fi network infrastructure used to deliver telecommunications services including voice, video and high-speed data.
  • Supports carrier Wi-Fi network equipment such as WLAN controllers, wireless access gateways, policy managers, capture portals, AAA/radius, and charging platforms.
  • Applies strong knowledge of wireless data communications principles, architectures, and protocols including TCP/IP, routing, switching, WAN and Ethernet technologies to design and implement efficient Wi-Fi network configurations.
  • Researches emerging technologies as a member of a task force or independently and makes appropriate recommendations to improve Wi-Fi network performance, security, and reliability.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the effective operation of the department.

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:


  • 5 - 7 years’ of Wi-Fi Network design experience
  • 5-7 years’ experience of RF design
  • Strong knowledge of system design for 5G and LTE
  • Direct experience in developing requirements, partnering with vendors, and implementing a service provider wireless core consisting of WLAN controllers, wireless access gateways, policy managers, capture portals, AAA/radius, and payment platforms.
  • Advanced knowledge of delivering Wi-Fi services in commercial, hospitality, MDU/MTU, and residential environments utilizing a carrier Wi-Fi core infrastructure to provide mobility.
  • Progressive experience in wireless systems engineering in all phases of the system life cycle
  • Applicable industry-recognized technical or security certifications (CWNA, CWSP, CCNPW, CCNA, etc.)
  • Conduct wireless RF site surveys and RF spectrum analysis, document results, and provide recommendations on optimization and performance improvement.
  • Working knowledge of Air Magnet or Ekahau test Equipment
  • Working knowledge of wireless access platforms based on the following standards: Passpoint, Hotspot 2.0, and WiGig
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks/projects as well as lead small, directed projects.


Additional Qualifications Desired:


  • Working knowledge of Aptilo or Cisco Wi-Fi core architectures
  • Working knowledge wireless carrier Wi-Fi offload
