General Description of Position:

 

Proactively monitors Hargray Communications’ network infrastructure.  Works in a team environment to manage our Video services focusing on reliability, performance and security. This position will focus on analysis of Video services. Identifying configuration issues that could result in loss of connectivity, degradation of performance or network and/or service outages. The team will utilize various tooling and instrumentation to understand the health of Video/RF services take action to prevent impairment. The position will also support outage management for both incident and problem.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

 

  • Troubleshoots alarms and alerts that are generated by network equipment.
  • Troubleshoots issues that are reported by customer, affiliate, or other sources to resolution regarding Hargray products.
  • Troubleshoots issues with field operations to resolve customer/network related issues.
  • Monitors and troubleshoots video problems from all video deployment models
  • Perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA) on service failures.
  • Support and oversees complex customer maintenance activities.
  • Open and update tickets as needed, also open tickets with vendor support teams for software/hardware issues.
  • Maintains all video monitoring applications and tools
  • Validate the health of the network and its services daily.
  • Provide 24x7 escalation support to in support of MTTR goals
  • Support Market Network and Service scorecard goals
  • Execute maintenance activities for each network and service technology
  • Monitor network and service quality
  • Maintain error logs and provide resolutions to problem
  • Update site-specific daily logs and troubleshoot hardware failures and server issues
  • Perform checks on network and service backup plan and organize and plan system maintenance to avoid interruptions
  • Works on multiple highly complex major projects requiring innovative, original solutions
  • Plans multiple projects simultaneously. Estimates, tracks & completes project on time and within budget.
  • Leads group of engineers and technicians, responsible for budget and manpower estimates.
  • Provides service restoration status and consultation to internal teams, management, as well as customers.
  • Performs network upgrades and maintains configuration backups.
  • Assists with alarm correlation and fault determination.
  • Creates processes, procedures, and training for Tier I and Tier II to perform troubleshooting and ticket management.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to ensure the proper operation of the NOC.

 

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5-7 years of Telecommunications or related industry experience
  • BS or equivalent
  • Cisco EC7 Controller, Motorola DAC Controller
  • Proficient in IP Multicast
  • Ability to read and interpret a spectrum analyzer
  • Intermediate level understanding of MPEG and MPEG analysis/transcoding
  • Knowledge of DOCSIS 2.0/3.0 and Packet Cable standards
  • Proficient in all MS Office programs including Project and Visio
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks/projects as well as lead small, directed projects.
  • Working knowledge of Networks, RF Distribution, IP Multicast, and it’s supporting protocols
  • IPTV experience should include
  • 2 years’ experience with the OSI Model, multicast video, routing, switching, subnetting, static IPs, SD/HD IP encoding
  • Microsoft Mediaroom – (HP Blade enclosures, EMC storage, VOD, and encryption)
  • Understanding of how to perform level readings, Depth of Modulation, Pre and Post Bit Error Rate and Modulations Error Rate measurements when required
  • Knowledge of video transcoders
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 75 lbs
  • HFC experience should include:
  • 5 years’ experience on the following equipment: Digital and analog satellite receivers, video modulation systems, aggregation equipment, optical lasers and receivers, FTTH RF overlay, spectrum analyzer, stream analyzers, SLM, VOM
  • Understanding of upstream and downstream balancing and sweeping concepts
  • Understand the setup and tuning of Satellite Dishes including feed horn focal points and V/H LNB’s

 

Additional Qualifications Desired:

  • Juniper/Cisco certifications (CCNA or JNCIA) or equivalent experience
  • Working knowledge of Ericson Media-Room service
  • Experience with:
    • Cisco - DNCS and Set top Boxes
    • Arris – DAC6000 and related CA equipment
    • Arris - CMTS C4, CMM/Flex VOD
    • Comscope and Cisco Edge Modulation Equipment
