General Description of Position:

Designs, implements and maintains DOCSIS solutions for Hargray Communications’ network, including CMTS hardware/software, CPE provisioning, and related technologies in support of Voice, Video, and Data across our customer base. Develops internal processes for the deployment of these technologies, while providing leadership to our technical staff.  Works in a team environment to develop and manage DOCSIS services using the latest technologies, focusing on reliability, performance, and security. Serves as a tier 3 escalation point for operational support issues.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates the ability to manage complicated technical projects including timelines, costs, resources, and vendor relationships
  • Provides advanced technical and operational escalation support to the Operations staff on network elements, internal processes, training requirements, vendor support, and network design and planning
  • Provides senior-level project management and capital management duties.
  • Manages vendor relations and product evaluations, provides costs analysis and feasibility studies for various projects and proposed network designs
  • Identifies operational and design issues through data analysis and recommends solutions to make networks more efficient.
  • Monitors network performance and perform capacity planning to ensure optimal performance of network resources
  • Works with our internal technical, sales, and support groups to provide a reliable and secure network infrastructure used to deliver telecommunications services including voice, video, and high-speed data
  • Supports DOCSIS and related infrastructure such as CMTS hardware, health monitoring equipment, and supports logical and physical capacity management functions
  • Researches emerging technologies as a member of a task force or independently and makes appropriate recommendations to improve network performance, security, and reliability
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the effective operation of the department.


Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • 7-10 years of network engineering/DOCSIS experience in an MSO/SP environment
  • CCNA/JNCIA level networking certification or equivalent knowledge and experience
  • Thorough understanding of DOCSIS and HFC concepts, specifications, and plant architectures
  • Expert level hands-on working knowledge of Arris E6000 CMTS platform and related supporting solutions in a D3.0/3.1 environment such as Path track
  • Network performance management experience including SNMP polling/traps and CMTS capacity management
  • Experience with DOCSIS CPE provisioning, including but not limited to DHCP, configuration file management, modulation profiles, firmware deployment, and BPI+ security
  • Support and troubleshooting experience in DOCSIS environments, including noise/ingress, CMD, and BER/MER
  • Understanding of IPV4/IPV6 and related technologies as they apply to both DOCSIS and CMTS support and configuration
  • Ability to design, implement and support Packet Cable/MGCP and SIP voice technologies
  • Working knowledge of IP and RF video distribution architectures
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks/projects as well as lead small, directed projects
  • Strong at documenting, technical writing and good communication skills able to represent department when required
